EVera Recruitment Information Pack for SuperDielectrics

About SuperDielectrics

SuperDielectrics is a UK-based advanced battery technology company developing next-generation energy storage solutions designed specifically for the high-power applications of the future. Based at Chesterford Research Park near Cambridge, the company is pioneering a breakthrough water-based zinc battery technology that combines world-class polymer science with electrochemistry to create safer, faster and lower-cost alternatives to conventional lithium-ion batteries.

Founded in 2013, SuperDielectrics has evolved from fundamental materials research into a rapidly growing technology business focused on commercialising products for data centres, grid-scale energy systems and commercial energy applications. With a highly experienced leadership team drawn from companies including Boeing, bp, Johnson Matthey and Tritium, SuperDielectrics is bringing together deep scientific expertise and industrial experience to tackle some of the world’s biggest energy challenges.

The Technology

At the heart of SuperDielectrics’ innovation is a proprietary polymer separator combined with zinc-based electrochemistry and water-based electrolytes. The result is a battery technology designed not simply to compete with lithium-ion, but to solve challenges where conventional batteries reach their limits.

Key advantages include:

  • Safety – Approximately 50% water-based chemistry removes the risk of thermal runaway, fire or explosion.
  • Fast Power Delivery – Capable of charging and discharging significantly faster than conventional lithium-ion technologies.
  • Long Cycle Life – Independent testing has demonstrated up to 13x longer cycle life in high-power applications.
  • Secure Supply Chains – Uses abundant materials such as zinc rather than critical minerals.
  • Sustainability – Built from recyclable, widely available materials with a lower environmental impact.

This differentiated technology enables SuperDielectrics to address emerging markets where power quality, safety and rapid response are critical.

Applications

SuperDielectrics is developing products for several fast-growing sectors:

  • AI Data Centres - Artificial intelligence is driving unprecedented growth in data centres, creating significant challenges for electrical infrastructure due to rapid fluctuations in power demand. SuperDielectrics’ batteries are designed to provide instant power smoothing, reducing strain on infrastructure and enabling safer, more efficient operation of critical systems.
  • Grid & Renewable Energy - As renewable energy generation increases, balancing intermittent supply becomes more important than ever. SuperDielectrics’ technology can work alongside existing energy storage systems to improve grid stability and maximise renewable energy utilisation.
  • Commercial & Industrial - The company is also developing solutions for commercial buildings and industrial sites where managing fluctuating energy demand can reduce costs, improve resilience and support decarbonisation goals.
  • Residential Energy Storage - Through the development of its Faraday platform, SuperDielectrics is creating safer and more sustainable home energy storage systems designed to support flexible tariffs and greater energy independence.
