Technology & Impact

Mint Innovation's battery technology focuses on recycling black mass from end-of-life lithium-ion batteries to recover essential metals. Their low-carbon hydrometallurgical process is designed to produce lithium, nickel, and cobalt—key materials for electric vehicle (EV) batteries—at a demonstration facility planned for operation in the UK by 2027.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to establish a robust, onshore supply chain for critical EV materials, reducing reliance on traditional mining and supporting the UK's transition to a low-carbon economy.

In the UK, Mint Innovation are working in a consortium with Jaguar Land Rover, LiBatt Recycling and WMG at the University of Warwick to develop an onshore UK circular battery supply chain solution with grant funding secured through the Advanced Propulsion Centre.
