Materials Controller

Our client, a manufacturer of electric cars whose mission is to bring real engagement and emotion to driving electric performance cars is currently looking for a Materials Controller (contract) to join their team! As a Materials Controller, you’ll play a pivotal role in synchronising manufacturing operations and material flow. You’ll ensure production schedules align with engineering requirements and supply chain capabilities in a high-performance, low-volume automotive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Material Requirement Planning (MRP):
    • Analyse demand forecasts and run MRP in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics)
    • Generate purchase requisitions or production orders
  • Inventory Management:
    • Maintain optimal stock levels and monitor safety stock
    • Conduct regular inventory audits and reconciliations
  • Vendor Coordination:
    • Liaise with suppliers to confirm delivery dates and resolve issues
    • Expedite or reschedule deliveries as needed
  • Production Support:
    • Ensure timely availability of materials for production
    • Collaborate with planners and buyers to mitigate risks
  • Data Analysis & Reporting:
    • Monitor KPIs (OTIF, inventory turns, material availability)
    • Provide insights and reports to management
  
Qualifications & Experience:
  • 2–5 years in material planning, supply chain, or procurement
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems (Odoo, ApprovalMax, Epicor, etc.)
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP)
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in low-volume, high-spec automotive manufacturing is a plus
  • CIPS, CILT, Six Sigma or Lean certifications desirable
  • Motorsport or niche automotive experience is a bonus
  
What We’re Looking For:
Essential:
  • Strong understanding of automotive manufacturing, especially low-volume/high-spec.
  • Experience managing BoMs using MRP/ERP systems.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and composite lay-up manuals.
  • MCIPS qualified (or working towards), with 3–5 years in technical purchasing.
  • Calm, effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
Desirable:
  • Experience in niche automotive or motorsport environments.
  • Familiarity with ODOO ERP system.
