A Midlands based battery cell research and manufacturing centre is currently recruiting an Electrochemist to join the company. This position is to aid the company in maintaining the production process of battery cells for Electric Vehicles and other applications.

  

The Electrochemist will:

  • Lithium ion cell teardown and failure analysis
  • Cell electrical and thermal testing and performance analysis.
  • Work with customers on various aspects of cell design such as formulation specification, process design specification, electrolyte formulation etc.
  • Create technical reports for customer projects as well as internal projects.
  • Support electrode fabrication, cell assembly, and electrochemical analysis for development and production of commercial grade lithium ion cells
  • Create product design targets and performance requirements.
  • Perform advanced electrochemical analysis to assist in battery failure mode analysis.
  • Identify new binders, electrolytes, and additives and designs new generations of electrode and electrolyte formulations to improve battery performance.
  • Work with customers on various aspects of cell design such as formulation specification, process design specification, electrolyte formulation etc.

  

The Electrochemist will have:

  • PhD level qualification
  • Industry experience (outside of academia) in lithium ion battery industry for both laboratory and commercial-grade cells (such as 21700 and/or pouch cells).
  • Practical experience of electrochemical testing techniques.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills. Management of test data sets and strong analytical skills.
  • Willingness to travel to visit test houses and work with experts from external companies. Driving licence.
  • Hands-on experience in electrode formulation, slurry preparation, electrode casting, cell assembly, cell testing, and cell teardown.
  • Skilled in various electrochemical techniques such as impedance spectroscopy (EIS), cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic cycling (GC), galvanostatic intermittent titration techniques (GITT or PITT) etc.
