The Senior Modelling & Simulation Engineer (Battery Cell) will:

  • Develop Li-ion cell models and use these to inform in-house and customer design activity through all phases (feasibility, concept, detail design, development, testing, and validation).
  • Provide analysis data to support requirements tracking when test/experimental data is not available or feasible to measure.
  • Peers across Product Engineering (Mechanical Engineering and System Engineering team) for requirements driven modelling and expertise in other engineering streams (e.g., system, thermals, mechanical, design, fluids).
  • Develop Li-ion cell lifetime modelling capability.
  • Liaise with external partners on modelling and simulation projects.
  • Peers within the Electrochemistry team to support model inputs and setup such as material data and electrochemical principles.

The Senior Modelling & Simulation Engineer (Battery Cell) will have:

  • Master’s Degree qualification (MEng, MSc or equivalent) at grade 2:1 or higher in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry.
  • Relevant industry experience (batteries, fuel Cell, flow batteries, semi-conductors, and other electrochemical applications)
  • Proficient in CAE software tools such as COMSOL, STAR-CCM+, ANSYS in modelling multi-physical problems in both steady state and transient phases.
  • Good understanding of product delivery using V&V and Agile methodologies.
  • Some experience in 1D modelling tools such as MATLAB Simulink, Dymola, and the practice of building circuit models such as fluid flow, thermal and electrical (equivalent circuit) in both steady and transient cases.
