Our client, a Developer of graphene-enhanced cathode materials for the next generation of low-cost batteries focusing on using its expertise in advanced materials like graphene to develop environmentally conscious, high-performance electrodes which reduce the cost of batteries, is currently looking for a Senior Chemical Engineer to join their team. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Production Team that develops the company’s products for manufacture, innovating on existing techniques while ensuring that commercial viability and quality is sustained during the transition to scale-up.

 

The Senior Chemical Engineer will:

  • Lead chemical engineering projects, translate improvements between lab scale and pilot-scale activities, work with a team of process chemists to deliver high quality product to internal and external customers.
  • Contribute to the development of integrated production processes, enabling transfer from materials research through scaled-up prototypes to manufacturing using automated and semi-automated pilot-scale chemical production equipment.
  • Design and run simple feasibility studies to find direction on novel chemical production processes.
  • Work closely with equipment design engineers and outside partners to successfully complete proof of concept activities.
  • Support an atmosphere of safety and good engineering practices.

 

The Senior Chemical Engineer will have:

  • Degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Experience of pilot (kilo+) scale chemicals/materials manufacture and materials processing. Relevant industrial experience (a background in the battery, ceramics, polymers, electronics, food, pharmaceutical industries)
  • Project progression – can demonstrate having worked on a product/concept/process from research (early phase) through to demonstration of technology.
  • Broad knowledge in materials science, from small scale to bulk materials.
  • Experience with thin film materials, surfaces, and interfaces/interphases.
  • Previous experience with materials characterization techniques: electron microscopy, analytical spectroscopy, and macroscopic testing.
  • Proficiency in data acquisition, processing, and analysis.
  • Experience of process development and technology transfer, including the scoping, documenting, evaluation, and exemplification of IP opportunities
