A Midlands-based battery cell research and manufacturing centre is currently recruiting a Formation, Aging and Testing – Process Engineer (FA&T Engineer). Reporting to the Head of Manufacturing Engineering, this position will support UKBIC baseline products and evaluation of customer proposals. As a process engineer, the successful candidate will support battery production activities of pilot and R&D cell manufacturing lines by supervising and improving manufacturing equipment and methods.

 

The FA&T Process Engineer duties:

  • Research, design, and testing of production methods and equipment.
  • Research and commission new equipment or modify existing equipment to prototype new electrode manufacturing methods and formats.
  • Analyse manufacturing to increase uptime, availability and reliability metrics-yield, OEE, cycle time, quality and investigate bottlenecks to identify the root cause and countermeasure to maximize throughput
  • Drive root cause analysis through process and equipment expertise, correlate with upstream/downstream processes.
  • Troubleshoot and recover processes by PLC, HMI, or tool management software, and implement changes/improvements.
  • Work independently and with vendors to understand the root cause of failures, propose design or component changes, and implement and validate equipment modifications.
  • Generate and maintain documentation including machine and process specifications, drawings, BOM, spare parts, PFMEA, control plan, process flow chart.
  • Support daily industrialisation activities, providing guidance and instruction to the electrode manufacturing process
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation by collecting, analysing, and summarizing information and trends.

 

The FA&T Process Engineer will have:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering
  • Relevant experience in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, Process Engineering or equivalent.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent understanding of Manufacturing / Process Engineering fundamentals and methods.
  • Experience in a high volume manufacturing environment from a similar industry.
  • Exceptional appreciation for Health, Safety and Quality control procedures.
  • Exposure to data acquisition equipment and software.
  • Exposure to PLC Controls or other automated systems is preferred.
