An automotive design consultancy specialising in low-carbon vehicle engineering and technology are currently seeking a Senior Battery Systems Engineer. The successful candidate will be involved in the Battery system requirement development, specification generation, system design, verification, and validation

The Senior Battery Systems Engineer will:

  • Be involved in developing, implementing, and validating appropriate battery system architecture
  • Projects may include product development and customer R&D / demonstration / production projects in electric vehicle systems, powertrain, and stationary energy storage.
  • Liaise directly with customers, suppliers, and staff at all levels to capture battery system requirements and satisfy technical and project delivery needs
  • Participate in research and development of appropriate battery system architectures and evaluate them against use cases based upon steady state analysis and dynamic simulation as appropriate
  • Derive and validate the battery system component level requirements.
  • Develop and execute appropriate system level verification & validation plans.
  • System development from Proof of Concept to C sample and production as appropriate
  • Support product sourcing, purchasing and selection as required by the design process
  • Create project documentation in line with company processes and standards.

The successful Senior Battery Systems Engineer will have:

  • A degree or similar qualification in an engineering, physics or mathematics
  • A good understand of engineering design practices of battery systems i.e.
  • Battery packs and subcomponents
  • Battery management system hardware and software
  • Cell formats and chemistries
  • Battery pack materials selection and manufacturing techniques
  • Battery validation approaches and techniques.
  • Knowledge of electric and hybrid vehicle technologies, i.e.
  • Power Distribution Unit, Inverters, eMotors and chargers
  • Vehicle powertrain, heating and cooling systems
  • Experience in automotive or other relevant battery systems design, development, and validation
  • Proven track record in the effective delivery of technical objectives to quality targets and milestones
  • Familiarity with systems engineering processes from requirements capture through to design validation
