A state-of-the-art R&D laboratory facility supporting the development and testing of novel battery designs is now looking for a Lead Electrode Chemist / Engineer – Energy Storage Scale Up. This role will involve the development, and optimisation of manufacturing processes for materials and components for cells and batteries.


The Lead Electrode Chemist / Engineer – Energy Storage Scale Up Will:

  • Optimise and deliver manufacturing processes for custom components in our cells, enabling the next generation of products.
  • Implement disruptive, novel, and established manufacturing techniques that will enable the delivery of prototype cells according to project objectives.
  • Lead activities within a multidisciplinary team, including researchers and technicians enabling transfer from materials research through scaled-up prototype cells to characterisation, manufacturing and further scale-up globally.
  • Reporting results to a range of stakeholders and documenting preparatory methods, SOP’s, and technical transfer reports. 
  • Line management and personnel development responsibilities for a team of engineers within the cell prototyping team.


The Lead Electrode Chemist / Engineer – Energy Storage Scale Up Will Have:

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent experience) in a leadership role within chemical, physical science, or engineering discipline relevant to contemporary manufacturing.
  • Relevant industrial experience within battery cell manufacturing or process development is essential – experience with mixing, compounding, extrusion, coating, casting, film-blowing, lamination, calendaring, injection moulding processes are of particular interest.
  • Practical experience of specifying, procuring, validating, and maintaining manufacturing equipment, including problem solving and troubleshooting.
  • Practical experience of handling and maintaining safe working practises for hazardous materials and use of protective equipment.
  • An understanding of process research and development, including materials and thick-film characterisation techniques is highly desirable.
