High Voltage Battery Engineer

A Hybrid / EV System Integration company specialising in the specification, design, integration and validation of low carbon powertrain systems is currently looking for a High Voltage Battery Engineer. This role will cover all aspects of battery systems, including electrical, mechanical, thermal and controls systems, and range from requirements management through design to final validation and testing.

The High Voltage Battery Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Hands-on development of HV batteries and their subcomponents
  • Prototype battery manufacturing and rework
  • Requirements decomposition and management
  • Guiding the simulation team on analysis required and evaluate simulation outputs at cell, module and pack level
  • Supplier and customer communication on technical issues and project management
  • Component and system level testing – Producing test rigs, performing tests and analysing test results
  • Maintaining compliance with HV electrical functional safety

The High Voltage Battery Engineer will have:

  • Industry experience in automotive Powertrain / High Voltage system engineering
  • Experience of Lithium-Ion battery development and/or testing
  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in a relevant engineering discipline – Electrical, Electronic, Automotive or Mechanical (or equivalent professional accreditation).
  • Sound engineering understanding and capability to apply basic scientific principles to real-world applications
  • Familiarity with automotive industry processes, methods and standards.
  • Familiarity with regulations pertaining to Automotive High Voltage systems
  • Familiarity with HV battery thermal management concepts
  • Working knowledge of battery management systems (BMS) and associated parameters (e.g. SOC, SOH)
  • Familiar with HV battery safety concepts, including interlocks, HVIL, manual service disconnect and HV isolation
  • Effective root cause analysis and ensure permanent corrective actions are implemented for quality issues.
