'The Designer' - Lead Mechanical Design Battery Engineer - Remote Working

A mobility tech company with the clear goal of revolutionizing the way vehicles are developed for the next phase of electric mobility are currently seeking a Lead Mechanical Design Battery Engineer in this role you will be in charge of the complete mechanical design of the battery system as well as mechanical requirements engineering.

The Lead Mechanical Design Battery Engineer Design will:

  • Influence major architectural decisions up to vehicle level including the battery packaging concept, structural integrity, integration in body in white and crash as well as abuse control.
  • Create an innovative, highly integrated (up to vehicle level), abuse tolerant and lightweight battery design.
  • Design appropriate test bucks and experiments,
  • Identifying suitable test resources
  • Specifying test set ups and instrumentation
  • Ensuring proper test execution, data acquisition and documentation
  • Work closely with cell design, modelling and safety experts in the battery team and interface with CAE, PD and test engineers across the company

The successful Lead Mechanical Design Battery Engineer will have:

  • BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Strong technical expert and thought leader with a minimum of 5 years of industry experience in automotive or aerospace battery design.
  • Outstanding mechanical designer with deep understanding of materials and component characteristics specific to batteries (e.g. swelling
  • of cells, aging and abuse behaviour, temperature sensitivities, etc.)
  • Expert with regard to mechanical requirements common in automotive applications (reliability, abuse, crash, min modes, etc.)
  • Experience in lightweight designs (materials, structure, joining technologies)
  • Strong CAD background, familiar with CAD tools, preferably CATIA.
  • Experience in the selection and design of thermal interface materials, pressurized cooling components, gaskets and connections
  • Good understanding of mechanical properties and characteristics of body in white and the complete vehicle.
  • Knowledgeable in a big variety of manufacturing and joining technologies and an understanding for design and cost constraints that
  • come with different manufacturing processes (e.g.: welding, gluing, extrusion, stamping, moulding)
  • Experience with CAE, modal analyses and relevant tools
