A mobility tech company with the clear goal of revolutionizing the way vehicles are developed for the next phase of electric mobility are currently seeking a Lead Battery Modelling Engineer to contribute to the world's most ambitious and prestigious mobility project and set the course for unprecedented improvement and disruption in technical performance, system modelling, user experience and business models.

As the Lead Battery Modelling Engineer you will:

  • Work within the battery team and be in charge of electrical and thermal battery modelling and battery performance requirements engineering
  • Be a thought leader in the field, identify the correct types of models and shape the fundamental approach to battery modelling
  • Make sure all development tools are built in a way that they work with the SW and Sim backbone and can be easily integrated into the vehicle model.
  • Work closely with the DevOps, Scientific Compute and Aero-Thermo teams
  • Build and validate thermal models for pack and cell, scalable battery packaging models down to electrode level (MCO, geometry stacks, mass, energy, cost) and cell equivalent circuit (ECM) models
  • Define all tests that are required to create, inform and parameterise your models. You will also cooperate with external partners to run those tests
  • Develop and/or implement appropriate tools for data visualization. Those can be custom solutions or appropriate tools available on the market

The successful Lead Battery Modelling Engineer will have

  • MSc or PhD in electrical engineering, computer science or (electro-) Chemistry. Focus/Thesis or Major in the field of batteries
  • Strong technical expert in battery modelling
  • Fluent with the following battery models as well as test and characterisation procedures:
  • R-C equivalent circuit (EIS based, Pulse Relaxation based)
  • Thermal battery modelling and characterisation
  • CAD supported Battery system and cell packaging models
  • Experience with predictive battery life modelling (e.g. leveraging Machine Learning) is a plus
  • Strong data driven approach to modelling combined with experience in design of experiments for model validation, data processing and system level KPI tracking
  • Profound understanding of battery performance requirements, battery & cell designs and characteristics, relevant chemical reactions and battery abuse behaviour
  • Experience with Battery modelling tools and general tools for data processing and visualization such as MatLab, JMP, Tableau, BEST, Voltaiq or similar
  • Open to travel nationally and internationally
