After significant investment, a world renowned premium sports car manufacturer and engineering consultancy has announced a new Midlands Technical Centre to act as their global engineering headquarters. In line with this growth, the company are currently seeking a Battery CAD Draughter (12 Month Contract)

You will be responsible for the delivery of CAD models and 2D drawings for the HV Battery and associated systems. This engineer will be responsible for ensuring all designs meet mechanical and electrical safety standards along with internal manufacturing and service requirements.

The Battery CAD Draughter Duties:

  • Responsible for the development of Engineering Design CAD for the HV Traction Battery (including all internal subsystems), Power Electronics and charging systems.
  • Responsible for the delivery of detailed geometry and drawings of 3D CAD models for internal and external use.
  • Responsible for reviewing drawing packages for errors and or possible gaps in critical characteristics.
  • Responsible for generating cost and weight BOMs for CAD models.
  • Responsible for developing solutions to technical, packaging and assembly concerns and issues.
  • Responsible for managing CAD Models and supply to CAE teams as required.
  • Support authoring of HV Traction Battery design guidelines.
  • Support FMEA activities on Battery design activities.
  • Support the drive for serviceability and repair solutions of HV batteries.
  • Support prototype and concept development.


The Successful Battery CAD Draughter Will Have:

  • Degree qualified as a Mechanical Engineer or similar discipline
  • CATIA V5 experienced (expert user)
  • Experience of designing HV Traction batteries (ideally 400V and 800V systems).
  • Knowledge of electrical stringing configurations (series and Parallel) and its impact on the battery system and control /sensing hardware.
  • Experience of designing electrical subsystems (BDU) and specifying electrical subcomponents (Busbars, fuses, contactors etc.)
  • Understanding of Lithium-ion technologies including mechanical and thermal considerations based on cell formats.
  • Experience of supporting and generating drawing releases
  • Experienced issue resolution (CAD support)
