After significant investment, a world renowned premium sports car manufacturer and engineering consultancy has announced a new Midlands Technical Centre to act as their global engineering headquarters. In line with this growth, the company are currently seeking a Battery Test Engineer who will be responsible for the co-ordination and delivery of HV Battery Testing and associated systems.

You will be the testing authority for the battery, power electronics and charging systems. You will support vehicle testing activities and be responsible for leading testing to identify issue root cause and validation of permanent corrective actions.

The Battery Test Engineer Duties:

  • Lead the co-ordination of HV Battery, Power Electronic and Charging test activities including all internal subsystems.
  • Obtain quotes and arrange test slots with internal and external test houses.
  • Raise purchase orders and complete safety documentation required for transport and testing of HV Battery systems.
  • Support vehicle testing activities and be responsible for leading testing to identify issue root cause and validation of permanent corrective actions.
  • Carry out Live and HV working activities relative the HV traction battery and charging systems.
  • Ensure safety rules and procedures are followed during HV and Live working activities.
  • Investigation of Data Logs and signals, reporting findings to the HV Senior Manager.
  • Author HV Traction Battery testing procedures and guidelines.
  • SME for Battery homologation and regulations testing requirements.
  • Liaise with homologation and testing authorities as required.
  • Develop solutions to investigate and test technical issues relating the HV battery and associated systems.

The Successful Battery Test Engineer Will Have:

  • Degree Qualified in Electrical/ Electronic Engineering
  • Experience of working with HV Traction batteries (ideally 400V/800V systems).
  • HV and Live working Trained (AP/SAP)
  • Knowledge of electrical stringing configurations (series and Parallel) and its impact on the battery system and control /sensing hardware.
  • Knowledge of Battery electrical subsystems (BDU, Busbars, fuses, contactors etc.).
  • Knowledge of Power Electronics (DCDC, OBC etc.).
  • Knowledge of Charging systems/hardware.
  • Knowledge of software associated with battery and charging systems.
  • Experience of reading and interrogating test logs.
