An R&D company developing world leading materials for battery applications is currently seeking a Senior Electrochemist/ Battery Engineer to manage the design and execution of electrochemical tests to support the development and commercialization of battery material products that meet Li-ion customer specifications. Potentially to lead a team on cell engineering, testing standardisation, cell teardown, and electrochemical failure mode analysis.

Senior Electrochemist/ Battery Engineer Duties:

  • Supervise electrode fabrication, cell assembly, and electrochemical analysis to support the development of anode materials.
  • Understands product design targets and performance requirements. Develops and carries out standard operation procedures for electrochemical quality control (QC) tests.
  • Leads measurement system analysis (MSA) to understand the implications of measurement errors and to ensure the integrity of electrochemical tests.
  • Provides technical support for customers in battery testing.
  • Designs and performs advanced electrochemical analyses to assist in battery failure mode analysis.
  • Supervises junior scientists and technicians
  • Identify new binders, electrolytes, and additives. Designs new generations of electrode and electrolyte formulations to improve battery performance.
  • Facilitates knowledge transfer to design and manufacturing teams and provide support to enable or accelerate product development and scale up.

The Successful Senior Electrochemist/ Battery Engineer Will Have:

  • PhD in electrochemistry or other similar qualifications is preferred
  • 3 or more years of direct industrial experience in battery testing for both laboratory and commercial-grade cells (such as 18650s).
  • Hands-on experience in electrode formulation, slurry preparation, electrode casting, cell assembly, battery testing, and cell teardown.
  • Able to design structured experiments and analysis utilising statistical methodologies.
  • Skilled in electrochemical analysis methods such as cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic cycling (GC), galvanostatic or potentiostatic intermittent titration techniques (GITT or PITT), and impedance spectroscopy (EIS), etc.
  • Extensive material and electrochemical characterisation experience to elucidate process-structure-property relationships
