Artemis Technologies is at the forefront of the maritime industry’s push towards decarbonisation through the development of high-speed, zero-emission vessels and transformative technologies.
Founded in 2017 by Dr. Iain Percy OBE, Artemis Technologies recognised the urgent need to decarbonise high-speed maritime transport and assembled a team of industry-leading experts to integrate proven technologies from yacht racing, motorsport, and aerospace. This collaborative effort led to the development of the patented Artemis eFoiler® technology, a 100% electric, hydrofoiling system that dramatically reduces drag and enhances energy efficiency.
Artemis Technologies reached 190 employees in January 2025.
Artemis Technologies is on a robust growth trajectory, having secured substantial funding, including £33 million from the UK Research and Innovation's Strength in Places Fund. This investment supports the development of zero-emission hydrofoiling ferries in Belfast, with the total project investment expected to reach £60 million. In 2024, the company announced plans to launch the first zero-emission hydrofoiling passenger ferry, to operate between Belfast and Bangor, capable of carrying up to 150 passengers and reducing fuel costs by 85% compared to traditional diesel-powered ferries.
With global manufacturing capabilities and a strategic office in New York, their revolutionary Artemis eFoiler® electric propulsion system, featuring a high-voltage battery energy storage system and ultra-high power density electric drivetrain, sets a new standard in maritime transport.
Artemis Technologies fosters a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence. The company is proud to support apprentices through its Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Apprenticeship Scheme, run in partnership with Belfast Met. This program allows students to participate in hands-on projects and receive mentoring from world-leading industry experts within the team, reflecting the company's commitment to nurturing talent and supporting professional development.
Artemis Technologies is also a proud member of the 'Maritime UK - Diversity in Maritime' program, which aims to promote a fair, equal, and inclusive UK maritime industry that embraces diversity and creates a supportive and open atmosphere for all to be able to achieve their potential.
Building on its high-performance background, Artemis Technologies' mission is to lead the decarbonisation of the maritime industry through the design and development of transformative technologies and vessels that produce zero emissions in operation. The company aims to revolutionise maritime transport by providing sustainable and efficient solutions that significantly reduce environmental impact.
