Director of Engineering

A developer of high-performance solid-state sodium batteries designed to offer safety, sustainability, and lower cost versus lithium-ion is currently hiring a Director of Engineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering the engineering aspects of the organisation’s battery design for manufacture and recycling.

The Director of Engineering will:

• Define the strategy to deliver the engineering Milestones. The foremost responsibility is to deliver engineering Milestones, the (i) cell, (ii) stack & module and (iii) multi-kWh systems.
• Lead the team of engineers who undertake all engineering functions that contribute to the battery system: mechanical, electrical, software and product-development engineering.
• Support delivery of the second-generation steel-supported cell.
• Introduce a scalable drawing and naming system.
• Mentor young engineers.

The Director ofEngineering will have:

• 10 years professional engineering experience.
• Experience setting, reviewing, and delivering Milestones on time and within budget.
• Successful leadership of an operational engineering team in an innovative industry.
• Experienced managing users of 3D CAD (SolidWorks) / design data management / engineering analysis software.
• Strong but careful influencer, excellent communicator, and listener.
• Chartered engineer and member (or fellow) of relevant engineering institution.
