Senior Scientist – Risk Mitigation

A pioneering R&D company are currently seeking a Senior Scientist – Risk Mitigation to support lab-based activity on material failure mode.   This role will involve material characterisation, and the design and execution of failure mode experiments to support the development of next generation battery products to meet customer specifications. 

Senior Scientist – Risk Mitigation Duties:

• Lead and manage a small team focussed on all root-cause failure analysis of advanced battery materials within the business. This includes developing both test and analytical methods to better understand failure modes.
• Correlate material structure with electrochemical performance along customer guidelines.
• Participate in company technology reviews, road mapping activities and peer review of project activities reporting to senior members of the team where necessary.
• Identify novel technology opportunities to enhance technical progress and competitiveness.
• Assist the intellectual property department with drafting and evaluation of internal patent claims and filings.
• Provides written and oral reports at all levels within the company including summaries of large bodies of work.

The Successful Senior Scientist – Risk Mitigation Will Have:

• Demonstrable experience in battery material failure mode analysis; This includes battery tearing down analysis, destructive and non-destructive test methods and material and electrochemical characterisation experience.
• Minimum of a Masters level University Degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Electrochemistry or equivalent. A PHD qualification in the same area is also highly desirable.
• Prior experience gained managing a team in an industrial / commercial R&D environment designing structured experiments and analysis utilising statistical methodologies.
• A strong background knowledge of the relevant scientific literature on battery materials and chemistries.
